Senator Cory Booker to headline 2017 Mansfield-Metcalf Dinner
U.S. Senator Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, will be this year’s keynote speaker at the Montana Democratic Party’s 39th annual Mansfield-Metcalf Dinner on March 18 in Helena, executive director Nancy Keenan announced today.
“I can’t wait to get back to the Last Best Place to speak with folks about the exciting future of our party in Montana and across this nation,” Booker said. “We have a lot of work to do in the days, weeks and years ahead to make sure we never lose sight of our values as we look ahead to what will be another history-making campaign season in Montana.”
Booker has served New Jersey in the U.S. Senate since October 2013, after gaining national attention as the popular mayor of Newark. An Oxford University Rhodes Scholar and a graduate of Yale Law School, Booker also played football for Stanford University. He has dedicated his political career to bringing people together and serving disadvantaged communities through economic growth and opportunity.
Booker also delivered one of the most powerful speeches during last summer’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
“Cory is one of the Senate’s hardest working members, he knows how to get people on their feet, and he knows what it takes to get things done in broken Washington,” said Tester, Montana’s senior U.S. Senator and a Big Sandy farmer. “He’ll bring a powerful perspective to Montana, and I’m excited to host him in Helena as we lay the groundwork for 2018.”
